GYMPIE music lover Taurean Thompson has turned a passion into a thriving emerging business with the opening of The Musicians Garage in Mary Street Gympie. Mr Thompson and his music teacher wife Natalie are the impetus behind The Musicians Garage.
Not to be confused with a mechanic, The Musicians Garage specialises in the sale and hire of musical equipment not only in the Gympie region, but also across the Sunshine Coast, Fraser Coast and Wide Bay districts.
“I had thought I would start off small and then grow from there, but things have all ready come along, in leaps and bounds” he said.
“It’s all come along a lot more quickly than I expected.”
The Musicians Garage stocks a growing rage of musical equipment for many different occasions and aims to provide a high quality service that is stress-free.
Now with his business up and running in Gympie, Mr Thompson said artists were able to buy and hire locally, cutting their costs.
“And it means more money it spent locally in the Gympie region,” Mr Thompson said.
Already Mr Thompson has the seal of approval from a number of high-profile acts – including Gympie Music Muster favourites Troy Cassar-Daley and The McClymonts.
Troy Cassar-Daley performed late last year at the opening of Gympie’s new Bunnings store using equipment hired from The Musicians Garage while country act, The McClymonts, sourced Mr Thompson’s services for a gig down on the Gold Coast last October.
Meanwhile, a decision to amass vintage music gear is paying dividends as the music industry rediscovers the unique sound of a bygone era.
“Some acts are chasing a particular sound (from another decade) and I have a lot of vintage gear that allows them to recreate that,” Mr Thompson said.
Mr Thompson said he felt positive growing the business in Gympie.
“The music culture is here in Gympie,” he said.
“There’s a really good musical vibe here.”
